Erie, Pa. — The University of Delaware women’s hockey team claimed four of six potential points and improved to 5-7-0 this weekend, posting powerful wins over SUNY Oswego and Rochester Institute of Technology on Friday (Nov. 8) and Saturday (Nov. 9) respectively before being handed defeat by Mercyhurst on Sunday (Nov. 10). Rookie Meredith Mack cemented herself as a key component in the Blue Hens’ offence, accounting for four goals through the weekend.

Delaware 8, SUNY Oswego 0

Delaware blanked SUNY Oswego, 8-0, on Friday evening, and a number of first-year Blue Hens made major impacts. Meredith Mack led the team with two goals and an assist, while Erika Siegel and second-year Blue Hen Kaelen Speck each accounted for one goal and two assists. Speck’s linemates Kendall Dubin and Courtney Marino added a goal apiece, as did blueliners Priya Albert and Sunny Breen. Sophomore goalie Morgan Cullen registered her first ACHA shutout.

Delaware 6, RIT 1

Not even 12 hours after their first game concluded, the Hens maintained their forward momentum to outpace RIT, 6-1, on Saturday morning. Delaware established the tone of the game with three first-period goals and peppered RIT goalie Madalyn Dillabough with 54 shots throughout the contest.

Dubin led the Hens’ charge with a hat trick — bringing her seasonal goal total to 13 — and an assist, while Siegel, Speck and Mack accounted for one tally apiece. Cullen again backstopped Delaware to victory by registering 16 saves.

Mercyhurst 4, Delaware 1

Jayden Whitling of the Lakers and Mack of the Blue Hens traded early goals before host Mercyhurst edged away to a 4-1 victory. Hayley Vandepol recorded a natural hat trick to propel Mercyhurst to a three-goal advantage in the second period, one they held in a scoreless third.

Despite falling to 4-7 on the season, Cullen registered 59 saves in defeat, boosting her save percentage to an impressive .909.

The Blue Hens return east this weekend, hosting Navy on Friday evening (Nov. 15) before squaring off against them again on Saturday morning (Nov. 16). Friday’s game will be featured as bonus coverage on Delaware Hockey Night Radio, while Saturday’s contest from McMullen Ice Arena will stream on both Delaware Hockey Night TV and DHN Radio.
