MACH Tournament: Liberty Soars To First-Round Win

Hamilton, N.J. — The top-seeded Liberty Flames were strong in the second and third periods, coasting away from a 1-1 first intermission tie with Maryland to remain undefeated in intra-conference competition and post a 6-2 win in MACH Conference Tournament quarterfinal play on Friday (Feb. 14) at Ice Land.

Maryland struck first, as Thomas Murphy gave the Terrapins the 1-0 lead less than six minutes into the game. Liberty recovered with 4:34 left in the period as Darren Carter evened the score from a Drew Crilly assist.

Once the puck dropped for the second period, Liberty took over. Carter netted his second goal of the game 4:08 into the frame, and the rout was on. McFarlane and Crilly struck for the Flames as well, capping a span of three goals in under five minutes. At the end of the second, Liberty was in control with a 5-1 lead. In the third, J.D. George added a power-play goal for Liberty, while Murphy tallied his second goal of the game for Maryland.
