Around the Rinks: Friday, Nov. 9

Newark, Del. — Four high school teams in the Delaware Hockey Night coverage area took part in Inter-County Scholastic Hockey League (ICSHL) action Friday night (Nov. 9).

DMA 4, St. Mark’s 3

After jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the second period, the Delaware Military Academy Seahawks held off a late rally from the St. Mark’s Spartans to win the rematch of last year’s ICSHL South Division championship game, 4-3, at the Patriot Ice Center in Newark, Del.

Aidan Danese’s second goal of the game, scored with 3:05 left in the second period off an Aaron Catron assist, put the Seahawks out of reach, increasing their lead to 4-1. Braeden Frost and Justin McGee also scored for DMA in their first game of the season.

The Spartans found their legs in the third period, with Jimmy Paoli (two goals) and Graham Kline (one) both contributing on the scoresheet. After a scuffle with 11 seconds to go resulted in St. Mark’s having an abbreviated power play and goalie Billy Pierce being pulled in favour of a sixth attacker, the DMA penalty kill stepped up to protect the win.

DMA (1-0-0) hosts Unionville next Friday (Nov. 16), while St. Mark’s (2-1-0) hosts Kennett the same evening.

Unionville 6, Kennett 3

A five-goal second period lifted Unionville over Kennett, 6-3, at Ice Line in West Chester, Pa.

Five different players found the back of the net for the Indians, with Philippe Doucette’s pair of goals including the eventual game-winner at 11:47 in the second period. Bryce Halsey, Stevie Cicchino, Jake Petrillo and Oscar Daum each added a goal as well.

The Blue Demons gave way after securing a 2-0 first-period lead on the shoulders of goals from Blake Richman and Christo Walker. A third from Kyle Robertson came late in the third period after Unionville had outpaced the Demons.

Unionville (1-1-0) hosts West Chester East on Monday (Nov. 12) at Ice Line, while Kennett (1-2-0) takes on Appoquinimink, also on Monday, at the Patriot Ice Center. The Kennett/Appoquinimink game will air on Delaware Hockey Night Radio.
